SARAH ROBERTSON: This study is beginning to fill in some of the missing information about what it is in our environment that might be contributing to this increasing prevalence of preterm births and particularly why it's common in developed countries.

A mother who is being treated for breast cancer has been asked to stay away from her daughters' school grounds because she is giving off a smell that is offensive to school staff.
As is characteristic of some breast cancer sufferers, Ms Mascareno's body has a powerful odour. Robert Abney, rhe principal at her daughters' school, has asked Ms Mascareno to refrain from entering the school building because his staff found her overpowering smell offensive. I am consciously aware that had that happened to my chaperone he would have fallen. There was a car coming towards the zebra crossing. Who knows what might have happened. What really shocked me is how inaccessible a lot of aspects of our community are. These things are really simple to fix. I think sometimes we get a bit confused because accessibility does not necessarily mean that we are restricting other people.
It just means that we are opening up opportunities to a lot more people. One of the things I did was go into a shop in the Cavill Mall. Getting in was fine.
